In this marketplace, you’ll be able to list products, view a list of vendors, and allow users to register either as customers or as vendors. This is the kind of platform we’ll be building by the end of this tutorial.
- But first—what is WordPress?
In short, WordPress is a content management system (CMS). If you’d like a deeper understanding of what WordPress is and how it works, we’ve created a dedicated video for that—check the link in the description.
Why are we using WordPress?
It’s free and open-source
You don’t need any coding skills
You have full ownership of your content and website
You can monetize your marketplace however you like
Now, to use open-source WordPress and build our multivendor website, we’ll need a domain and hosting. There are plenty of options out there for this, and some of the best value-for-money providers include WordPress.com, SiteGround, and Hostinger—among others.
That said, you can also run WordPress locally on your computer without purchasing a domain or hosting. Tools like WordPress Studio, Local by Flywheel, or a standard localhost setup can help you do that.
Since this video is for demonstration purposes, we’ll be using a local environment.
2.Now, this is our WordPress website.
The next step is to install WooCommerce.
WooCommerce is the eCommerce engine that powers the online store functionality in WordPress. We also have a dedicated video explaining what WooCommerce is and how to use it—check the link in the description for that.
3. Step three is choosing a multivendor platform or plugin.
There are several feature-rich, user-friendly, and cost-effective multivendor plugins available. One of the best options out there is Dokan. It’s widely used for its ease of use, regular updates, and excellent customer support. That’s why, in today’s video, we’ll be focusing on setting up a multivendor marketplace using Dokan.
4. Step four is selecting a theme.
5. Marketing Your Multivendor Marketplace:To get started, you can use tools like Yoast SEO, MonsterInsights, and other plugins based on your preferences to optimize your site and track performance effectively.
